NCAA Tournament Bracket Forecast: Texas on the rise; Kentucky, Indiana on the bubble

Updated Jan. 17, 2023 5:15 p.m. ET

Houston, Alabama, Purdue and Kansas remained firmly atop FOX Sports bracket forecaster Mike DeCourcy's updated NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament projections, which were released Tuesday.

The Cougars have now won eight in a row and sit at 17-1 overall and 5-0 in the American Athletic Conference. The Boilermakers and Jayhawks also have one loss, while Nate Oats' Alabama team sits at 17-2.

One of the biggest changes in DeCourcy's updated bracket forecast is that Texas has moved up to a No. 2 seed, joining Gonzaga, Tennessee and UCLA. The Longhorns are winners of three straight and have won nine of their last 10 games.

Following three consecutive ACC victories, including an impressive 65-58 win over North Carolina, the Virginia Cavaliers have moved up from 4-line to the 3-line. Arizona, Xavier and Kansas State are also listed as No. 3 seeds in DeCourcy's latest projections.

Iowa State, Baylor, TCU and UConn make up the No. 4 seeds.

When it comes to conference representation, the Big Ten leads the way with nine bids, followed by eight from the ACC. The Big 12 has seven teams represented, while the SEC has six. The Pac-12 and Big East have four teams in DeCourcy's latest projections. The Mountain West has three teams represented, while the WCC and American each have two.

Looking at teams on the bubble, DeCourcy has USC, Boise State, Maryland and Northwestern as the last four teams in, with Ohio State, Kentucky, Indiana and Creighton on the outside looking in.
