Nebraska's Shavon Shields suffers scary fall, will go through concussion protcol
Nebraska senior forward Shavon Shields was charted off the floor on a stretcher with 8:49 remaining in Saturday afternoon's 87-63 win over Rutgers.
Shield bit on a D.J. Foreman pump fake, flipping over the Rutgers forward and landing hard on his back.
According to Brian Rosethal of the Lincoln Journal Star, Shields has been released from the hospital and will be in the concussion protocol.
Shields was conscious and had feeling and movement in his extremities as he was taken off the court, Pietig said, and a CT scan was negative. Shields was later released from the hospital and will undergo school concussion protocol, per a school statement released approximately 2 hours after the game.
I“We are relieved and thankful Shavon has been released, and that his injuries aren’t more serious,” Nebraska head coach Tim Miles said. “We will follow the proper protocol to get him back to full speed. I know Shavon and his family are grateful for everyone’s thoughts and prayers.”
Shields is questionable for Wednesday night's game at Wisconsin as he continues to be evaluated.
The 6-foot-7 senior is averaging 15.6 points, 5.1 rebounds and a team-high 2.9 assists per game this season for the Cornhuskers.
He exited Saturday's victory with 17 points.
