New Hampshire outlasts UMBC in double overtime (Feb 25, 2017)
DURHAM, N.H. (AP) Iba Camara scored the first eight points of the second overtime and New Hampshire outlasted Maryland-Baltimore County 94-90 on Saturday in a regular-season finale to clinch a home playoff berth for the third consecutive year in the America East Tournament.
After missing his first six free throws, Camara made all four in the second overtime including a pair with 19 seconds left for a 91-88 lead. K.J. Maura's basket got UMBC within 92-90 but Daniel Dion ensured the win with two more free throws.
Camara finished with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Tanner Leissner scored 30 points to lead UNH (19-11, 10-6) before fouling out early in the first overtime.
Jairus Lyles scored 33 points for UMBC (18-11, 9-7). Lyles and Will Darley reached 1,000 career points.
UNH finished a 9-0 run to lead 65-57 with 1 1/2 minutes left in regulation but couldn't hold the lead against a pressing defense and 10 points from Lyles, including a 3-point play to tie with 12 seconds left before Dion missed a 3-pointer. Lyles' 3-pointer with 15 seconds tied the game at 83 in the first overtime before Dion again missed a 3.
Five players fouled out and 81 free throws were taken with the Wildcats making 34 of 50 and the Retrievers 22 of 31.
UMBC beat UNH 105-103 in another double-overtime game on Jan. 28.
