New Mexico State's defense continues to shine in 71-45 win (Jan 30, 2018)
LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) Jemerrio Jones had 14 points, 16 rebounds and three blocks as New Mexico State thrashed NAIA member Northern New Mexico 71-45 on Tuesday night.
The New Mexico State defense continued to dominate, holding an opponent under 50 points for the second straight game. The Aggies limited UMKC to 48 points in a 73-48 victory on Saturday.
Jones had his 13th double-double of the season, while dishing our four assists with four steals. Eli Chuha and A.J. Harris added eight points each as 10 Aggies put points on the board.
Northern New Mexico took an early lead before Jones had a layup and Sidy N'Dir followed with a 3-pointer that started a 12-1 surge. The Aggies were up 39-21 at the half.
NMSU (19-3), which has won eight straight, shot 48 percent (28 of 59) while holding the Eagles to 17-of-63 shooting (27 percent).
The Aggies return to Western Athletic Conference play Saturday when they host UT Rio Grande Valley.
Estevan Martinez led Northern New Mexico with 13 points, while Kevin Moore scored 10.
