North Carolina-Wilmington races away from D-II Coker 93-73

WILMINGTON, N.C. (AP) Chris Flemmings scored a career-high 21 points with three 3-pointers as unbeaten North Carolina-Wilmington defeated Division II Coker 93-73 Wednesday night.

Craig Ponder scored 12 points and made a school-record nine steals for the Seahawks (5-0). C.J. Bryce, Marcus Bryan and Mark Matthews scored 10 points each as N.C.-Wilmington went deep into its bench with 13 players seeing game time.

The Seahawks racked up 18 steals and blocked six shots as Coker committed 25 turnovers and was held to 35-percent shooting (24-68).

N.C.-Wilmington shot 46 percent from the floor, making 33 of 72 shots, and added 23 points on 32 free-throw attempts.

Trey Marshall led the Cobras with 16 points and Jalal Abdul-Azeez added 12 points. Jalen Watson scored 10 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.

Flemmings and Ponder scored consecutive layups late in the first half, pushing the lead to 11, 37-26, and the Seahawks kept the edge in double figures from there.
