Ohio State Basketball: Buckeyes Run Through Youngstown State

Updated Mar. 5, 2020 12:52 a.m. ET

Ohio State wins big.

After a tough loss on Saturday to UCLA, the Ohio State Buckeyes came back home on Tuesday night looking to get back on the winning track…and they did in a big way. They defeated Youngstown State 77-40 and dominated the whole game, going up 23-5 in the first 10 minutes.

Ohio State has made a name for themselves defensively and tonight was no different, holding the Penguins to just 13-62(21%) from the field and 2-21(9.5%) from three.

Kam Williams, Jae’Sean Tate and Kieta Bates-Diop all had 15 points and led the Buckeyes in scoring while Trevor Thompson posted another double-double. Thompson put up 11 points and 15 rebounds and JaQuan Lyle had 10 assists and 5 rebounds even though he only posted 2 points.

One thing the Buckeyes struggled with today was their free throw shooting, only going 10-17(58%) and Sophomore Guard CJ Jackson was 1-4. That is something they will have to work on if they want to have success in Big Ten Conference play because many games will be close and come down to late game situations.

One thing to keep an eye on is the health of Freshman Center Micah Potter. Potter went down after the tip-off as it appeared he rolled his ankle after landing on the officials foot.

It was something that I have never personally seen in a College Basketball game.  Potter and Youngstown State Center Rahim Williams both missed the ball on the opening tip-off and Potter landed on the officials foot and left the game.

Potter is officially listed as day-to-day but due to the Buckeye’s quick turnaround on Thursday against UNC-Asheville his status may be in question. We will get more word on his injury as tomorrow progresses into Thursday morning.
