Ohio State forward slaps floor, then gets embarrassed

Published Feb. 20, 2016 9:43 p.m. ET

In basketball, a defender slapping the floor is done as a motivational tool. It sets the tone for the defense and lets the offense know it’s going to have a rough time imposing its will and scoring.

Sometimes though, a floor slap doesn’t turn out the way it was planned. Such was the case with Ohio State’s Jae’Sean Tate Saturday against Nebraska.

With Cornhusker guard Tai Webster dribbling the ball in the middle of the floor, Tate put his head down and slapped the floor enthusiastically. One small problem, however. While he was doing that, Webster drove past him and streaked into the heart of the defense.

That is a GIF that will get Tate laughed at for a while on the internet and he’ll surely endure some ribbing from teammates as well. At least the Buckeyes won the game though, 65-62 to keep the team’s NCAA Tournament hopes alive.
