Old Dominion wins on last second putback, edges FIU 75-74
MIAMI (AP) — Ahmad Caver scored 22 points, but when he missed with time running out Dajour Dickens had the rebound and the putback with 1.1 seconds remaining, and Old Dominion battled past Florida International 75-74 Saturday night.
B.J. Stith added 19 points with seven rebounds for Old Dominion (12-5, 2-2 Colonial Athletic Association). Aaron Carver added 10 points and eight boards. Dickens finished with four points, six boards and three blocked shots.
The winning sequence in the tight contest was set up when FIU's Osasumwen Osaghae missed at the foul line and Jason Wade, who had just subbed in, rebounded for ODU.
Brian Beard, Jr. scored 28 points with 10 assists to lead FIU (11-6, 2-2) and Trejon Jacob added 16 points.
Carver dunked and Xavier Green hit a jump shot after a Beard miss and the Monarchs led 71-70 with 1:14 to go. That was the first of five times the teams swapped the lead in the last 74 seconds.
Beard made his last four free throws, staking FIU to a 74-73 lead with 20 seconds left.
