Peters answered with a jumper late in the shot clock and, after a steal by Nicholls' Ryghe Lyons, Peters was fouled by David Caraher on a shot in the lane. After the shot, HBU's Edward Hardt and Peters were each called for a technical foul. Peters missed both foul shots before Nicholls' Jahvaughn Powell and David Caraher traded two free throws apiece to give the Huskies a 71-70 lead, and the ball, with 58.4 seconds left. After another HBU turnover, Peters' free throws gave the Colonels the lead.

DuBose missed a layup, Caraher grabbed the offensive board and missed the putback. He pulled down another offensive rebound, but Hardt missed a runner in the lane as time expired.
