Portland edges Portland State 78-72

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) Alec Wintering scored 21 points with six rebounds, six assists and three steals as Portland edged Portland State 78-72 on Wednesday night.

Wintering was 9 of 19 from the field including two shots in the paint in the final three minutes that helped the Pilots (4-4) secure the win. Jason Todd added 14 points and three rebounds and Jarrel Marshall had 12 points.

Portland led by eight points at the break but Portland State started the second half with an 11-6 run to shrink the Pilots lead to 43-40 with 16:14 to play. Portland fell behind to trail 68-67 on a pair of free throws by Portland State's Isaiah Pineiro with 4:16 left. Marshall responded with a jumper to put the Pilots back up 69-68 with 3:46 remaining and Wintering hit two layups to keep Portland on top.

Cameron Forte had 18 points for the Vikings (3-3).
