Powell leads way on both ends as Nicholls tops New Orleans (Feb 24, 2018)

THIBODAUX, La. (AP) Jahvaughn Powell scored 22 points and Tevon Saddler scored 19 to lead Nicholls past New Orleans 78-64 on Saturday night for its seventh consecutive win.

The Colonels (20-9, 14-2 Southland) have won 12 of their last 13 and are having their best run in the Southland since 1998.

Nicholls led 36-32 at halftime and the Privateers emerged from halftime with a 7-3 run and tied it on Bryson Robinson's layup, and later, Damion Rosser layup gave New Orleans a brief 46-44 lead. Saddler made a pair of free throws to start an 18-5 run and the Colonels were up 62-51 after Powell's 3-pointer.

Powell added another 3 and the Colonels led by double figures the rest of the way. Powell made six 3s and tied a career-high eight steals.

Troy Green led New Orleans (14-14, 11-6) with 18 points, Bryson Robinson scored 13 and Makur Puou grabbed 10 rebounds.
