Report: Arizona F Ray Smith to miss season with ACL tear

Published Oct. 24, 2015 11:53 a.m. ET

Several outlets have reported that Arizona freshman forward Ray Smith will miss the 2015-16 season due to a torn ACL in his right knee.

Jason Scheer of WildcatAuthority.com was the first to report the news on Friday. Both Allonzo Trier and Justin Simon, two other Arizona freshmen, tweeted support to Smith later on Friday night.

Smith, the 6-foot-7 forward from Las Vegas, torn the ACL in his left knee in July 2014.

Smith was one of several new additions to the Arizona frontline, one that retained Kaleb Tarczewski, but lost Rondae Hollis-Jefferson and Brandon Ashley. Ryan Anderson and Mark Tollefsen, two graduate transfers, join the Wildcats this season.

Arizona begins the season on Nov. 13 against Pacific.
