Rider downs UC Irvine behind Scott's 22 points (Nov 23, 2017)
LAS VEGAS (AP) Frederick Scott scored 22 points and grabbed nine rebounds, Jordan Allen added 19 points, and Rider pulled away early to beat UC Irvine 90-82 in a Thursday night consolation round of the Continental Tire Las Vegas International.
Dimencio Vaughn scored 13 points with nine rebounds and Stevie Jordan added 12 points with four assists for the Broncs (4-1), who on Friday will face Hampton.
Anthony Durham's 3 put Rider up for good, 3-2, and sparked a 9-0 run, and the Broncs led 28-18 after a 3 by Allen. Rider led by 13 on Allen's 3 with 5:05 left in the first half and was up 40-36 at halftime after Jordan's jumper at the buzzer.
Allen's layup at 16:32 in the second half put Rider up by 10 and the Broncs led 70-55 on Vaughn's free throw with 8:12 to play. The Anteaters closed to 81-76 on Tommy Rutherford's layup with 1:02 to go, but Rider sealed it with seven free throws down the stretch.
Rider was outscored 46-30 in the paint and 10 to six on fast breaks, but made 23 of 35 free throws (65.7 percent).
Max Hazzard scored 13 points, John Edgar Jr. had 12 and Brandon Smith 11 for UC Irvine (2-4), who face Northern Arizona on Friday.
