Sacramento State beats North Dakota 57-53 (Mar 02, 2017)

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) Nick Hornsby scored 15 points, Justin Strings also scored 15 and what proved to be the game-winning free throw, and Sacramento State beat North Dakota 57-53 on Thursday night, ending the Fighting Hawks' six-game win streak.

Eric Stuteville added 12 points for the Hornets (12-16, 9-8), who came in seventh in the Big Sky Conference standings and stopped first-place North Dakota for clinching a share of the regular-season title and the No. 1 seed in next week's conference tournament.

North Dakota takes on Portland State on Saturday while the Hornets play at Northern Colorado.

North Dakota's Drick Bernstine tied it at 48 with a free throw before Hornsby's layup gave Sacramento State a 52-49 lead with 2:10 to play. North Dakota closed to 52-51 on Corey Baldwin's layup with 24 seconds left.

Strings made 2 of 4 free throws to make it 55-51, but the Fighting Hawks closed to 55-53 on Quinton Hooker's layup with five seconds left. Trevis Jackson made two free throws for the Hornets and Geno Crandall's 3 with two seconds left missed.

Bernstine led North Dakota (18-9, 13-4) with 15 points.
