Saint Mary's uses strong 2nd half to beat Dayton, 69-54 (Dec 19, 2017)
MORAGA, Calif. (AP) Calvin Hermanson and Jordan Ford combined to score 33 points and Saint Mary's used a strong second half to get by Dayton, 69-54 on Tuesday night.
The Gaels trailed by two at intermission, 31-29, but upped their defense in the second half to outscore the Flyers 40-23 over the final 20 minutes.
Jock Landale recorded his fourth straight double-double and his sixth of the season for Saint Mary's, scoring 14 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. But the senior center came into the game averaging better than 27 points and 12.7 rebounds per game over his previous three games. Against Dayton he hit 7 of 9 shots from the field and added a pair of blocked shots.
Hermanson finished with 17 points, knocking down four 3-pointers. Ford finished with 16 points.
Saint Mary's (10-2) is 7-0 at home after shooting 51 percent against Dayton, hitting 25 of 49 from the field, including 9 of 23 from behind the arc.
Atlantic 10 Conference power Dayton (5-6) struggled from the field, hitting 35 percent (21 of 60), including 9 of 26 from deep. Xeyrius Williams led the Flyers with 16 points, with Jordan Davis adding 11.
