Sam Houston State holds off North Texas rally 76-70 (Dec 17, 2016)

HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) Chris Galbreath, Jr. scored 16 points and grabbed 13 rebounds as Sam Houston State held off North Texas 76-70 on Saturday night.

North Texas whittled a 10-point Sam Houston lead to 73-70 on a Jeremy Combs layup with 45 seconds to play before John Dewey III and Dakarai Henderson made 3 of 4 foul shots to close it out. Paul Baxter blocked a 3-point shot attempt with 19 seconds left and North Texas missed two more 3s in the closing seconds.

A.J. Lawson led the Mean Green (5-5) with 18 points, Combs added 13 and Derail Green 11. North Texas was just 2-for-19 from 3-point range.

Henderson finished with 13 points for Sam Houston State (8-3) with Dewey adding 12 and Baxter 11. Dewey also had six assists and three steals.

The Bearkats trailed 33-32 at halftime but started the second half on a 17-4 run and led by as many as 15.
