SE Louisiana gets 1st conference win, beats Lamar 98-70

HAMMOND, La. (AP) JaMichael Hawkins nailed seven 3-pointers to finish with 24 points as Southeastern Louisiana picked up its first Southland Conference win, rolling by Lamar 98-70 on Monday night.

Southeastern Louisiana (3-15, 1-4), which had lost nine straight, jumped out to a 29-14 advantage midway through the first half and took a 54-27 lead into the break. The Cardinals (10-8, 2-4), who barely got by Northwestern State 86-82 on Saturday, never threatened in the second half.

Marlain Veal added 17 points and dished out five assists for the Lions. Moses Greenwood hit 7 of 8 from the floor for 14 points, Zay Jackson added 13 and Jordan Capps chipped in 10.

Southeastern Louisiana shot 58 percent from the floor, making 13 of 22 from long range, while limiting Lamar to 26-of-72 shooting.

Kevin Booze led Lamar with 15 and Josh Nzeakor added 12.
