Seattle edges Fairfield 83-80 in Elgin Baylor Classic

SEATTLE (AP) — Matej Kavas scored 20 points and Seattle held off Fairfield for an 83-80 victory on Saturday night in the Elgin Baylor Classic.

The host Redhawks (5-2) will play Longwood while Fairfield (1-5) faces Denver to conclude the tournament on Sunday.

Delante Jones added 17 points for Seattle. Morgan Means made 13 free throws and a 3-pointer for 16 points, and Myles Carter tossed in 12 points.

Neftali Alvarez scored 16 points for Fairfield (1-5). Jesus Cruz added 13 points and Landon Taliaferro 12.

Felix Lemetti made a 3-pointer, Wassef Methnani four free throws, and Taliaferro a 3 to cap a 10-1 surge to pull the Stags to 81-80 with 43 seconds remaining. Means ran the clock down to 21 seconds and missed his jump shot, but was fouled. He then made two free throws to seal it.

Fairfield committed 33 fouls while Seattle shot 29 of 43 (67 percent) from the free-throw line.
