SIU-Edwardsville pulls away from Portland State 74-64

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP) Yemi Makanjuola scored 20 points, including four as SIU-Edwardsville scored the last nine points of the game in a 74-64 win over Portland State on Saturday.

Collin Spickerman's dunk pulled the Vikings within one with 2:45 left. Makanjuola quickly answered with a layup and a jumper by Burak Eslik made it 69-64 with 1:46 remaining. While Portland State was missing its last six shots, the Cougars made five of eight free throws.

C.J. Carr added 14 points for Edwardsville (3-7), which made 22 of 32 free throws, 17 of 25 in the second half. Makanjuola, a graduate transfer from UNC Wilmington, had his best outing for the Cougars by hitting 7 of 9 shots and grabbing nine rebounds, but he was only 6 of 12 from the line.

Spickerman had 15 points for the Vikings (3-5), who were 7 of 11 from the line, with De'Sean Parsons and Khari Holloway adding 10 each.
