SMU lost a former McDonald's All-American on Friday.
Keith Frazier, a junior guard, has elected to transfer, according to Bill Nichols of the Dallas Morning News. Frazier had stepped away from the program at the start of the this month, missing the past four games for the undefeated Mustangs.
"I'm always going to be close to him," Brown said. "At the end of the day, I've just got to do what's best for him. I'm never going to stop supporting him. I hope that's the way we are with all our kids. We're moving on. We've got a bunch of kids in that room I think we've got to focus our attention to."
The 6-foot-5 guard was a top recruit for Larry Brown in 2013. After averaging only 5.4 points per game as a freshman, Frazier's sophomore campaign was cut short when he was ruled ineligible by the NCAA for an academic issue. That led to SMU's current postseason ban.
Frazier was averaging 11.9 points per game for SMU. Nichols reports that the Texas native is looking at North Texas, UT Arlington and Texas State as possible transfer options.
He'll be a midseason transfer and will become eligible at the start of the second semester in December 2016.
