Southeast Missouri State earns 86-74 win at Eastern Illinois (Jan 20, 2018)

CHARLESTON, Ill. (AP) Daniel Simmons and Justin Carpenter combined to score 50 points to spark Southeast Missouri State to an 86-74 Ohio Valley Conference victory over Eastern Illinois on Saturday afternoon.

The victory is the Redhawks first in four games at Eastern Illinois' Lantz Arena.

Simmons scored a layup and hit a jumper in the final minute of the first half to send to cut the Panthers' first-half lead to seven points, 43-36. Carpenter converted a layup and Simmons hit back-to-back 3s to get the Redhawks (10-11, 4-4) even at 47-all three minutes into the second half.

Simmons hit 8 of 9 shots from the field, including 5 of 6 from distance, to score 26 points. Carpenter was 10 of 16 from the field and added 24 points.

Jajuan Starks and Mack Smith each scored 17 points to lead Eastern Illinois (7-12, 3-5), with Muusa Dama adding 16 points and 12 rebounds.
