Southern beats Alabama State 79-73 (Feb 20, 2017)
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) Chris Thomas had 19 points, seven rebounds and four assists to help Southern beat Alabama State 79-73 on Monday night.
Thomas scored 12 points in the first half and Shawn Prudhomme added 11 as Southern held a 39-31 lead at the break. The Jaguars scored 10 points - with five from LaQuentin Collins - in the first 2:21 of the second half for a 16-point lead.
Alabama State clawed back and Tony Armstrong converted a 3-point play with 56 seconds to get to 75-73. The Hornets forced a miss but gave up an offensive rebound and Tre'lun Banks hit two free throws for a four-point lead.
Prudhomme finished with 18 points and Jared Sam had 16 points and seven rebounds for Southern (14-14, 10-5 SWAC).
Armstrong scored 15 points and Terrance LeFlore had 14 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals for Alabama State (8-18, 6-8). Rodney Simeon also scored 14 but he was just 3 of 12 from distance.
