Southern finishes strong, beats Jackson State (Feb 06, 2017)

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) Shawn Prudhomme had 19 points, six rebounds and four blocks and Southern pulled away late to beat Jackson State 88-75 on Monday night.

Prudhomme scored six while the Jaguars (11-13, 7-4 Southwest Athletic Conference) closed out the final 2:50 with a 13-4 run. The Tigers (9-15, 5-6) cut a 13-point deficit down to 75-71 on Yettra Specks' 3-pointer, capping a 14-5 burst.

Chris Thomas added 17 points, Tre'lun Banks had 16 points, eight rebounds and six assists, and Jared Sam scored 14 for the Jaguars.

Specks made 5 of 8 from 3-point range and finished with 23 points. Maurice Rivers added 15 points, Paris Collins scored 11 and Janarius Middleton 10 for Jackson State.

Southern opened with the game's first seven points and neither team built a larger lead until the Jaguars pulled away with an 11-3 run to lead 50-41 early in the second half.
