Stutzman, Boyd lead Idaho St. to 62-60 win over Weber St. (Dec 30, 2017)
OGDEN, Utah (AP) Jared Stutzman had 17 points and Brandon Boyd scored 15 to help Idaho State beat Weber State 62-60 on Saturday night in the Big Sky Conference opener for both teams.
Stutzman and Boyd combined to make 13 of 20 from the field, including 4 of 20 from 3-point range. Balint Mocsan added 12 points and seven rebounds for Idaho State (6-6).
Novak Topalovic and Stutzman made back-to-back layups to give the Bengals a 62-52 lead with 2:29 remaining. Ryan Richardson and Jerrick Harding answered with consecutive 3s for Weber State (7-6) before Harding's layup with 18 seconds left made it 62-60. The Wildcats fouled and Mocsan missed the front end of a 1-and-1, but Topalovich grabbed the offensive rebound. He, too, was fouled and missed the front end.
Harding, driving through the lane, dribbled the ball off his leg and out of bounds with six seconds to go. Gene Luzcando missed another front end for Idaho State, but Richardson narrowly missed a half-court heave at the buzzer.
The Bengals made 3-of-10 free throws.
Harding finished with 27 points for Weber State.
Idaho State has won six of its last seven games after losing five in a row to open the season, extending its losing streak to 14 games.
