Syracuse Basketball: Dick Vitale disrespects the Orange
The Syracuse basketball team should be one of the best this city has seen in years. Although not everyone feels that way on the national scene.
There’s no other way to say this. This Syracuse basketball team is absolutely loaded. While some teams may be more talented than the Orange. No one has better depth in college basketball.
At every position they have a solid starter in place and behind them they have a strong bench pushing at every position. While Jim Boeheim is usually reserved when talking about his team, he couldn’t help himself.
“We’ve got everything, we’ve got depth, we’ve got shooters, and we’ve got size. This is the best team we’ve had in a long time.” Jim Boeheim talking to ESPN’s Jeff Goodman
But despite those comments a certain national persona couldn’t help himself when ranking the Orange. Legendary college basketball analyst, Dick Vitale, released his preseason power rankings on Tuesday.
20. Syracuse Orange
Jim Boeheim had to be happy to add Nebraska transfer Andrew White III late in the process. Tyler Lydon will be very tough to stop.
This team is a top-10 team and arguably they could be ranked even higher than that. In his two sentence explanation he reveals no reasoning to his ridiculous ranking. Which speaks to the constant narrative around the Syracuse basketball program.
People hate Syracuse. When the Orange made the NCAA March Madness tournament last year, people lost their minds including Mike Greenberg from ESPN’s Mike and Mike morning radio program.
It’s unclear why the Orange are constantly forced to prove themselves in the regular season. Because other teams aren’t faced with the same obstacles that the Orange have to face on a yearly basis.
Regardless this is the opinion of one 77 year old man who may or may not have some bias. This Syracuse team is more talented than the one that made it all the way to the Final Four last season. The Orange faithful should feel very confident going into this upcoming season, despite the opinion of the national media.
