Syracuse Basketball: Four-Star Recruit Shai Alexander Heading To Kentucky

Syracuse basketball’s 2017 class didn’t gain any traction thanks to the black hole known as Kentucky. Where will Syracuse go next?

Big Blue Nation has snagged another Syracuse basketball target.

Shai Alexander, a 6-4 combo guard, announced via Twitter on Monday morning that he will become the latest member of Kentucky’s 2017 class.

the Wildcats over Florida, Syracuse, Texas and UNLV.

He had originally committed to the Gators, but then in October Alexander decided to re-open his recruitment. At that point, all signs pointed for him to join Kentucky.

Many Syracuse fans, and journalists who cover the Orange basketball team, felt a bit perplexed as to why the top-50 guard even put ‘Cuse in his final five, as he never made a visit to Central New York to check out the campus.

Regardless, another target has passed on the Orange. Five-star center Nick Richards announced on Nov. 10 that he would attend Kentucky. His other finalists included Arizona and Syracuse.

However, Alexander’s decision doesn’t sting quite as much. No one expected him to sign with Syracuse.

Plus, ‘Cuse picked up its first recruit this past Saturday when Canadian forward Oshae Brissett committed to the Orange.

Up next on the recruiting front is Quade Green, a five-star point guard out of Philadelphia. He will reveal his school of choice this Saturday, Nov. 19. Syracuse coaches have aggressively courted Green for two years, and recruiting experts believe he is leaning toward ‘Cuse.

However, nothing is a sure thing. Particularly since Green is also considering Kentucky – of course – along with Duke, Temple and Villanova, the defending national champions.

That’s some hefty competition, so if Green does go Orange, that would make things even sweeter.
