Syracuse Basketball Injury Updates: Lydon, Chukwu, and Battle

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 8:57 p.m. ET

The Syracuse basketball team has been dealing with a myriad of injuries early in their 2016-17 seasons. So what’s the status of SU’s biggest stars?

The Syracuse basketball squad got a huge bounce-back win over Eastern Michigan on Monday night. Everything went well in the game, the lone exception was a scary moment for Sophomore Tyler Lydon.

Lydon came down and looked hobbled by some sort of ankle injury. Especially considering the other injuries that SU is dealing with, this team can’t afford to lose Lydon for any extended period of time.

Lydon’s playing status for Wednesday’s game against St. John’s will be a game-time decision, according to a source. Lydon appeared on the Carrier Dome court Tuesday wearing tape on his right calf that reached to his knee.

The Orange and Red Storm will tip off at 7 p.m. at the Carrier Dome (YES Network). We’ll have pregame coverage for you starting at 5:30 PM on TK99 in Syracuse.

Lydon is second in scoring for Syracuse with 11.8 points per game and leads the team in rebounding with 7.3 boards per game.

While Paschal Chukwu’s status seems destined for another red-shirt year for the Orange. He’ll have to request that extra sixth year of edibility from the NCAA.

While initially when it was revealed that John Gillon was making his second straight start, SU fans feared the worst.

Although Tyus Battle didn’t seem at all affected by the nagging foot injury he’s been dealing with. He came off the bench and provided that scoring punch that SU was desperate for. Battle said that he’s all good and ready to go. So really the only injury is too a depth player in Chukwu which shouldn’t hurt SU all that much.

Especially when considering the depth they have with Dajuan Coleman, Taurean Thompson, and Tyler Roberson. It may make the most sense for Lydon to rest on Wednesday to maximize the recovery time ahead of conference play.
