Syracuse Basketball: Lack Of Transition Offense Holding SU Back
Why is the Syracuse basketball team not living up to all the hype? Well lets start with that terrible fast-break offense for the Orange.
The Syracuse basketball team has been atrocious in transition. How bad could they be? Well I did some research and In the past six games the team has scored 23 points in the fast-break according to Cuse.com.
The reason being this team can’t buy a steal right now. Quite the oxymoron, but the point persists. When this team can’t create turnovers the transition offense is non-existent.
While in the latest game for the Orange they actually were able to force 19 turnovers. Yet still the team only managed to score six points. That’s terrible and something that head coach Jim Boeheim has been pulling what’s left of his hair out about.
Here’s what he had to say following the game about that lack of transition offense:
“Our guards just aren’t making plays. Instead of plays we’re making turnovers in transition. When you get advantage situations and we can’t make a play. We can’t make a layup, or we walk, we just have to get better.”
It starts and ends with the guards on offense for the Orange. Boeheim a coach who is typically pretty stubborn when it comes to lineup changes has gone to his third altercation of the season.

Speaking of the guards, one of SU’s brighest stars was visibly absent from the starting lineup.

After the game Boeheim revealed that Tyus Battle was working through an injury and wasn’t going to play him in this game due to the lack of practice time.
“It was just a foot,” Battle said. “But it’s feeling good. Minor stuff. It’s nothing anymore. It’s feeling good. it was just a minor thing. They wanted to ease me into it today. I should be good for Monday. “
With this latest loss for Syracuse they can now guarantee the non-existence of a quality win in the non-conference. Which sets up an all the more important conference schedule that’ll require SU to do something extraordinary just to make the tourney this season.
