Tarpey, Prewitt lead William & Mary over Hampton 86-67

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (AP) Terry Tarpey scored 13 points and grabbed a career-high 17 rebounds to lead William & Mary to an 86-67 victory over Hampton on Wednesday night.

Daniel Dixon and Omar Prewitt scored 22 points apiece to lead the Tribe (4-1). Dixon made five 3-pointers on 8-of-12 shooting from the field, and had five blocks. Prewitt had 10 rebounds and two blocks, and Tarpey added three assists, three steals and three blocks.

Reginald Johnson and Lawrence Cooks had 14 points apiece for Hampton (2-2).

The Tribe had a 15-point halftime lead, and stretched it to 60-35 with 12 minutes left. Brian Darden made a pair of free throws to spark an 11-2 surge and pull the Pirates to 77-64 with three minutes left. Johnson made two 3-pointers and Darden capped the run with another 3-pointer.

The Tribe made 6 of 8 free throws, and Paul Rowley made a 3-pointer to seal it.
