Tennessee-Martin pulls away from Rio Grande Valley 72-64

EDINBURG, Texas (AP) Twymond Howard and Richard Lee scored 16 points apiece and Tennessee-Martin pulled away late to beat Texas-Rio Grande Valley 72-64 on Friday night.

Jacolby Mobley added 15 and Alex Anderson 11 for the Skyhawks (3-7), who scored nine straight points to start a 12-2 run to go up 71-61 with 28 seconds left.

Howard's free throw tied the game at 59 with 4:56 to play. Mobley ended the surge with a layup. After two free throws by the Vaqueros (3-6), that made it 67-61 with 1:45 to play, Myles Taylor and Howard, who also had 12 rebounds, made four free throws to seal it.

The Skyhawks made 10 of 12 free throws in the last five minutes and 17 of 21 in the game.

Shaquille Hines and J.J. Thompson had 17 points each for Rio Grande Valley, which trailed 34-26 at the half, and Dakota Slaughter added 13.
