Texas A&M Basketball: Aggie Comeback Falls Short vs No. 19 Arizona
Despite fighting back from a staggering 22 point deficit, the Texas A&M basketball team fell just short of another historic comeback against #19 Arizona.
We’ve seen them win, we’ve seen them lose, but we’ve never seen them quit. That lack of quit was on full display at the Lone Star Shootout as the Aggies fought tooth and nail against No. 19 Arizona, falling just short in Houston.
The Aggies lost a nail-biter, 67-63, to yet another Pac-12 opponent. The Aggies are now 7-3 on the season with losses to UCLA, USC, and Arizona, all of which are ranked within the Top 25.
While the fight was there, turnovers did the Aggies in. The boys in maroon and white committed 14 total turnovers, which tied a season high. The Aggies came into the game averaging about 11 turnovers per contest. Arizona’s defensive play played a major factor in the loss, holding the Aggies to a season low 63 points and just 3 three-point field goals.

Maroon and White Highlights
Although the Aggies fell behind by as many as 22, they went on a 18-0 run in the last 10 minutes of play to cut the lead down to just two with 20 seconds to play. While the comeback came up short, the highlights were aplenty in Houston on Saturday morning.
Tyler Davis, the reigning SEC player of the week, finished with 21 points in the contest. This is the third time in the last four times that the sophomore has reached the 20 point plateau. In addition, Tyler added 10 rebounds to his successful day, claiming the fifth double-double of his career.
Freshman Robert Williams continues to turn heads. He finished with 17 points on the day, a career high for the youngster. He added yet another blocked shot, extending his streak to 10 straight games. The freshman has notched a blocked shot in every game the Aggies have played.
Joining Williams and Davis in the double digit point club was Admon Gilder and DJ Hogg, scoring 13 and 10 respectively.
Junior Tonny Trocha-Morelos did not get on the board, but helped his team with 10 rebounds on the day. This matched the most by an Aggie this season. While the comeback did come up short, a lot of positives came out of this loss for a very young Aggie team.
Looking Ahead
The Aggies will ready themselves for SEC play as they head home to College Station. Only one more non-conference game stands between the Aggies and their quest to defend their conference title.
Tip off from Reed Arena against the Saint Frances Red Flash will be at 7 p.m. on Wednesday. The Aggies will then face Tennessee to open SEC play from Reed Arena on December 29. The team will then head to basketball power house Kentucky on January 3.
