Texas A&M Basketball: Tyler Davis Named SEC Player of the Week
Sophomore center Tyler Davis earned SEC Player of the Week Honors while leading the Texas A&M basketball to a perfect 3-0 record on the week.
After a tremendous start to his season it seemed like it was only a matter of time before Davis was recognized for his spectacular play. Davis leads a 7-2 Aggie team in points per game (14.6) and rebounds per game (7.6).
This week Davis posted points/rebounds totals of 25/8, 7/8, and 22/8 in wins over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Denver, and South Carolina State, respectively. The 25 points against the Islanders was a career high for the young center. He followed it up this week with his second 20+ point game of his career against the Bulldogs.

The emergence of talented freshman Robert Williams has helped to alleviate defensive pressure against Davis. The results have been everything that Aggie fans could hope for, with both he and Williams averaging double digit scoring in nine games this season. Williams took home SEC freshman of the week honors last week.
The tandem of Williams and Davis has bailed the Aggie offense out on poor shooting performances this year. Davis has done his part on both sides of the court. He ranks second on the team in field goal percentage and blocks per game, after Williams in both categories. Those two in the paint make getting into the paint extremely challenging for opposing offenses.
If Davis can keep up this intensity on both ends of the court he should offer a mismatch against most every team in the SEC with the exception of Kentucky. They’ll get to that challenge in January. In the mean time Aggie fans can look forward to a few more player of the week awards and plenty of points from their sophomore leader, Tyler Davis.
