Texas-Arlington hoops coach Cross fired after 12 seasons
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) Texas-Arlington has fired coach Scott Cross after 12 seasons.
Cross played for the Mavericks and then was an assistant coach before leading the school to 225 wins and its only NCAA Tournament appearance during his time in charge.
Associate head coach Greg Young, assistant coaches Zak Buncik and Kenneth Mangrum, and director of operations Maurice Moore also lost their jobs.
Athletic director Jim Baker said Monday in a statement he believes the program needs new leadership.
The Mavericks were 21-13 this season and missed a chance to get back to the NCAA Tournament after losing to Georgia State in the Sun Belt Conference tournament final.
Cross was 225-161 as their head coach, and went to the 2008 NCAA Tournament after winning the Southland Conference tournament. The Mavericks won the Southland regular-season title in 2012 and were Sun Belt champs in 2017.
