Texas Basketball: List of Players in the NBA for 2016-17 Season
Which players from the Texas basketball program are currently in the NBA?
While Texas is more known for its football than basketball, the players who have reached the hardwood in today’s NBA product are quality. The amount who have gotten there in recent years is low, especially with a handful like Markel Brown and Myck Kabongo getting opportunities, but taking their talents overseas.
One of the NBA’s best players, Kevin Durant, is from the Texas basketball program. He starred for the school during the 2006-07 season and got selected No. 2 overall by the then-Seattle SuperSonics in the 2007 NBA Draft. Durant’s lone season in Austin could go down as one of the best in the program’s history.
There are a handful of players in the league besides Durant, including a rising forward on the Indiana Pacers and a league veteran on the San Antonio Spurs. Who makes up the shortlist of Texas basketball players in the NBA?
Most of these players have become quality pieces for teams for the past handful of years. Some have bounced around organizations, but they have all left an impact on their teams. This includes Aldridge being a mainstay for the Portland Trail Blazers for nearly a decade before going to the Spurs. Augustin has also been a bench piece for a handful of teams in recent years.
More players from the University of Texas are sure to make their way to the NBA in the coming years. Some may even go overseas if the chance to play in Adam Silver’s league isn’t there. Who will be the next to make their way to the Association?
