Texas-Rio Grande Valley beats UMKC 71-66

EDINBURG, Texas (AP) Antonio Green scored 16 points as Texas-Rio Grande Valley beat UMKC 71-66 on Saturday night.

Green finished with 5-of-11 shooting from the field including four from distance for the Vaqueros (6-13, 2-2 Western Athletic Conference). Dakota Slaughter added 14 points, eight rebounds and four assists and Dan Kimasa and Shaquille Hines had 12 points apiece. The team averaged 50 percent shooting from the field and 66.7 percent from the line.

Slaughter sank a 3-pointer and a jumper back-to-back midway through the first half to give the Vaqueros a 19-15 lead. But UMKC rallied late in the period to take a 33-29 lead at halftime.

A Hines layup followed by a Green 3-pointer put the Vaqueros on top 49-44 in the second half with 12:03 to play. UMKC came within two points, 68-66, with 1:15 to play but did not score after that.

Darius Austin scored 15 points for the Kangaroos (8-11, 1-3).
