Tulsa edges Division I-newcomer California Baptist 82-79
TULSA, Okla. (AP) — DaQuan Jeffries scored 19 points, Martins Igbanu added 18 and Tulsa edged Division I-newcomer California Baptist 82-79 on Friday.
Jeffries made two clutch free throws with 39 seconds left for a three-point lead. Milan Acquaah missed a 3-pointer at the other end and fouled Sterling Taplin, who was off on two free throws. Acquaah went 0 for 2 at the line and Tulsa ran out the clock.
Elijah Joiner chipped in with 10 points for Tulsa (3-0), which made 30 of 40 free throws.
Acquaah led California Baptist (2-1) with 20 points, eight rebounds and 11 assists. Bul Kuol made four 3-pointers and scored 16 points, Mike Henn added three 3-pointers and 15 points, and the Lancers hit 13 of 42 3s. The Lancers went to the line just 17 times, making 12.
The Lancers shocked Oral Roberts on opening night with Aiden Saunders' half court buzzer-beater for a 70-69 victory in their first Division I game.
