IRVINE, Calif. (AP) Mamadou Ndiaye scored 16 points and blocked six shots and grabbed six rebounds as UC Irvine defeated Division II UC San Diego 89-73 on Friday night.
Ndiaye hit 6 of 8 shots from the field - but was 4 of 10 from the free-throw line - to lead five Anteaters (1-0) in double-figure scoring. Jaron Marton scored 14 and Ioannis Dimakopoulos, Jonathan Galloway and Luke Nelson scored 10 each.
Aleks Lipovic led the Tritons with 16 points and Drew Dreyer added 10. UC San Diego made 24 of 62 shots, or 38.7 percent.
UC Irvine, by contrast, shot 62 percent sinking 21 of 50 from the floor. The Anteaters were 7 of 14 from 3-point range and made 20 of 28 free throws.
