UCLA Basketball: Lonzo Ball Named to the John Wooden Award Watch List

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

UCLA Basketball freshman point guard Lonzo Ball has been named to the John Wooden Award watch list.

There is something special about this Lonzo Ball kid. The UCLA Basketball team has found a real deal who is, so far, leading the Bruins to a 2-0 record. He is definitely a big deal.

More proof of that came this week as Ball was named to the John Wooden Award watch list. This award honors the best Division I basketball player in the country and is known as the most prestigious individual award a player can receive.

Ball was the best player in the nation in high school last season, leading Chino Hills High School to undefeated season.

This year he looks to do the same with UCLA, though it could be a little tougher. Though UCLA has started 2-0 and averaged 110.5 points per game (7th best in the nation), they will soon have to take on the likes of Kentucky, Arizona and Oregon.

With Ball, UCLA will be put in the best position to do that.
