UCLA Women's Basketball: Jordin Canada Ranked Among Top 25 Women's Basketball Players
As the UCLA Women’s Basketball team gets ready to start the 2016-2017 season this Thursday, Jordin Canada is already making headlines.
This morning, espnW ranked UCLA Women’s Basketball player Jordin Canada in the top 25 women’s basketball players for the 2016-2017 season. Canada secured the No. 21 ranking after having an outstanding season with the Bruins last year.
In just her second season in Westwood, Canada helped the Bruins to a 26-9 record and an NCAA tourney appearance. She led the team with 16.1 points per game, 5.7 assists per game, and 2.3 steals per game.
Canada chose UCLA because she felt the basketball program cared about her as a person, not just a basketball player. She also came to the UCLA Women’s Basketball team with the hopes of starting a legacy and getting the Bruins to their first NCAA Championship.
The junior guard is certainly making good on her promise. In her freshman year, Canada scored a career-high 31 points against West Virginia to help UCLA win the 2015 WNIT title.
The following year, Canada was key in getting the UCLA Women’s Basketball team to their first Sweet Sixteen since 1999. Unfortunately, the Bruins would ultimately fall to #2 Texas.
In addition to her outstanding contribution to the UCLA, Canada was part of the USA team that won gold at the World University Games in South Korea last year. She started in all six games.
Canada should be poised for the upcoming season. The UCLA Women’s Basketball team is currently sitting at #9 in the USA Today Coaches Preseason Poll. And now that the team has one of the top players in the country, the Bruins should get closer than ever to their first NCAA championship.
