UNC-Asheville rides big 1st half to beat ETSU, 84-64

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) Ahmad Thomas scored 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds as North Carolina-Asheville used a big first half to cruise past East Tennessee, 84-64 on Tuesday night.

The win was the sixth time the Bulldogs have held an opponent under 65 points in their first 10 games.

UNC-Asheville (6-4) raced to a 49-27 in the first half and shot 53.2 percent from the field (33 of 62), including 7 of 17 from deep. The Bulldogs out-rebounded the Buccaneers, 43-27.

Named both the Big South Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week, Dwayne Sutton scored 18 points for the Bulldogs while Kevin Vannatta and Sam Hughes added 13 and 11 points, respectively.

East Tennessee State (4-5) shot 47.1 percent from the field (24 of 51), including 6 of 16 from long range.

T.J. Cromer scored 13 points and Abednego Lufile added 10 for the Buccaneers.
