UNC Basketball: Early Bracket Preview has Tar Heels in South
Where does UNC land on the first bracket reveal of the year?
The NCAA Tournament Selection Committee revealed its first look at the top 16 seeds for the upcoming NCAA Tournament on Saturday.
It’s the first time they have ever given fans an early sneak peak inside the bracket, doing it with about a month left before Selection Sunday.
The show was hosted on CBS and revealed the top four seeds in each region.
For the Tar Heels, they sat at a number two seed in the South Region in the first reveal of the season. Along with UNC, fellow ACC teams Louisville and Florida State were also listed as number two seeds.

It’s interesting to see that Villanova and Kansas are the top two seeds and then Baylor at number three. That leaves Gonzaga as the fourth number one seed.
But something interesting was said during the reveal show. Mark Hollis joined the set and discussed the number one seeds.
Hollis noted that the one seeds are clearly the ones and that none of the twos were really a conversation on the one line.
That doesn’t bode well for the Tar Heels who are the top number two seed and the fifth seed overall.
The problem is that Gonzaga is the fourth number one seed and are undefeated this year. The Bulldogs are favored in every game left and have a chance to finish undefeated.
Kansas is in the running for the Big 12 title and if they win it, they lock up a one seed. Villanova is atop the Big East and would likely be a one seed if they won their conference.
Then there is Baylor.
It’s hard to imagine two Big 12 teams being one seeds with an outright champion. Baylor is ahead of Gonzaga, which could make things tricky.
The good news is that UNC will have plenty of opportunities to show they belong on that one line as they still play Louisville, Virginia (twice) and Duke who are all ranked. They also have the ACC Tournament coming up.
