UNC’s Justin Jackson earns co-ACC Player of the Week honors

North Carolina junior Justin Jackson and Boston College sophomore Jerome Robinson have been named co-ACC Players of the Week.

The announcement came on Monday afternoon and marks the third time this season that a UNC player has won the award. Tar Heels junior point guard Joel Berry II has won the award twice this season.

Jackson scored a career-high 34 points in North Carolina’s 103-100 loss to Kentucky on Saturday at the CBS Sports Classic in Las Vegas. He had a previous career high of 27 points which he scored twice this season, against Tulane and Davidson.

On the way to a career-high, Jackson hit 10-of-17 shots including four of his seven three-point attempts and 10-of-15 from the free-throw line.

For the season, Jackson is averaging 17.1 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.8 assists. The junior wing is hitting over 46 percent of his shots and a career best 37.7 percent from three-point range. Although missing a couple of crucial free-throws down the stretch against Kentucky, he’s converting on nearly 80 percent of his free-throw attempts this season, also a career high.

BC’s Jerome Robinson scored a career-high 32 points in his team’s win over Sacred Heart on Sunday. For the week, Robinson averaged 27.5 points, seven rebounds, four steals, 1.5 assists and a block in two Boston College victories. He shot 50 percent from the floor in the two games and had a double-double against SEC opponent Auburn.

Robinson ranks second in the conference in scoring at 20.5 points per game and his 2.09 steals per game are good for third-best. His seven games of 20 or more points is tied for first with Pittsburgh’s Michael Young.
