Utah State transfer calls school 'a bitter ex-girlfriend' for denying his release
David Collette averaged 12.4 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game as a redshirt freshman last season for Utah State.
However, two days before the 2015-16 season began, the 6-foot-10 forward decided he no longer wanted to be part of the program. He left the team, and now he is being denied his release by the university, according to Jeff Eisenberg of Yahoo Sports.
Collette claims the transfer was a result of issues he had with the coaching staff, citing insensitive remarks and an instance in which players were told to keep quiet about a fight that occurred during practice.
Utah State head coach Tim Duryea, who was given no time to replace a key part of his lineup, believes that he has become a victim of "poaching", a claim Collette denied.
"I don't understand why Utah State would do this," Collette told Yahoo Sports. "If a guy's not comfortable where he is or not happy, why not let him go? The coaches and administrators always talk about how they have their players' backs. Well, obviously not. From what I've experienced, they do not have my best interest at heart whatsoever."
"Who does that? It's so childish," Collette said. "I compare Utah State to a bitter ex-girlfriend. I feel like I broke up with Utah State and now she's doing everything she can to get back at me."
Without permission from Utah State, Collette is able to transfer to another school, but has to pay for his own tuition.
