Valparaiso pulls away from Green Bay, 85-70, to go to 5-0

VALPARAISO, Ind. (AP) Alec Peters scored 21 points and grabbed 13 rebounds and Valparaiso pulled away to beat Green Bay, 85-70 to remain unbeaten atop the Horizon League Saturday night.

The victory gave coach Bryce Drew, his brother Scott Drew and father Homer Drew a combined 500 coaching victories at Valparaiso. The family already topped 1,000 collegiate coaching victories this season.

Charles Cooper hit a pair of free throws with 42 seconds left in the first half to cut Valparaiso's lead to five points going into halftime, 33-28, and the Crusaders pulled away in the second half.

Carrington Love pulled the Phoenix to 69-59 with 4:05 left in the game, but Green Bay got no closer and Valparaiso answered with an 8-0 run.

Vashil Fernandez finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds for the Crusaders (15-3, 5-0).

Love and Cooper both scored 22 points to lead Green Bay (11-7, 4-2).
