Vermont pulls away from Niagara 85-67

UNCASVILLE, Conn. (AP) Trae Bell-Haynes scored 28 points on 8-for-13 shooting Saturday to lead Vermont to an 85-67 win over Niagara in the Hall of Fame Tipoff Tournament.

Ernie Duncan sank four 3-pointers and finished with 14 points, Kurt Steidl added 13 points, and Darren Payen and Ethan O'Day had 12 points apiece for Vermont (2-2), which hit 53 percent of its shots from the floor and 8 of 17 from long range.

Leading by a point at the break, Vermont opened the second half with a 12-4 run that included 3-pointers from Duncan and Steidl to stretch its advantage to 48-39. The Catamounts continued to pull away down the stretch and took their biggest lead of the game with a bucket from O'Day to make it 83-64 with 2:28 to go.

Emile Blackman and Matt Scott led Niagara (1-3) with 18 points apiece.
