Wake Forest Basketball: Demon Deacons get huge recruit in Chaundee Brown
Wake Forest basketball picked up their top priority and best recruit in eight years in Chaundee Brown.
Danny Manning has finally added a big time recruit to build his program around.
Chaundee Brown, the 30th overall player in ESPN’s top 100 in the class of 2017, has committed to the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. Ranked as the 9th overall shooting guard in the class of 2017, Brown chose Manning’s program over Florida, Kansas and Maryland on Sunday.
Brown is the highest ranked recruit to commit to Wake in eight years.
He was on an official visit in Winston-Salem this weekend and was the school’s top priority in this class for some time now.
The 6-foot-5, 210 pound Brown is a native of Orlando, Florida and will play his final high school season at First Academy.
This is by far the biggest signing of Manning’s tenure at Wake Forest. After the head coach struck out on getting the top overall recruit last year in Harry Giles, he knew he had to find “that guy” who can help put Wake back on the map.
Brown could be “that guy.” He’ll be able to help the Demon Deacons pull in other recruits in the ESPN top 100 and he will bring an immediate spark to the team’s backcourt.
Manning was seen as the man to turn around Wake’s basketball team, but has struggled to produce results on the court. In his two years on the job so far, Wake Forest has yet to win more than 13 games in a single season.
Now with Brown in the mix, that turnaround may be a lot closer than we thought.
Brown has a college ready body and he is someone who can really hold his own against elite level talent. He has a soft shooting touch all over the floor, making him a multi-dimensional guard that fits Manning’s up-tempo offensive scheme.
He also has a defensive-minded approach to the game, which is what Wake has been lacking in recent years.
The turnaround is coming in Winston-Salem, at least Demon Deacon fans hope so.
