Warren scores 30, UT Arlington tops Texas State 84-77 in 2OT
SAN MARCOS, Texas (AP) — Brian Warren scored a career-high 30 points, tying the game at the end of regulation and first overtime, and made the go-ahead free throws in the second overtime as UT Arlington knocked Texas State out of a share of the Sun Belt Conference lead with an 84-77 win on Saturday.
The record crowd of 6,581 was treated to 12 ties, 14 lead changes and neither team led by double figures.
Warren nailed a pullup jumper a step behind the foul line to tie the game at 60 with 14 seconds left in regulation. He scored all eight points for the Bobcats in the first overtime, the last two on a difficult shot in the lane that tied it at 68 with 14.6 seconds left. He gave UTA a 73-72 lead with 3:08 to play in the second overtime to start an 11-2 run.
Edrick Dennis added 16 points, David Azore 14 and Rashad Davis 12 for the Mavericks (10-12, 6-3), who moved into a three-way tie for second that includes Texas State (17-5, 6-3). Dennis and Davis both hit big 3-pointers in the second overtime and two free throws in the last minute. Azore had 13 rebounds for his second career double-double.
Najal Pearson had 15 points to lead Texas State, and Jaylen Shead had 13 with seven assists.
