Weatherington hits 10 3s, Hartford torches Binghamton, 97-65 (Jan 13, 2018)
WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) Travis Weatherington hit a school-record 10 3-pointers on 11 attempts and Hartford torched Binghamton, 97-65, in an America East Conference battle Saturday.
The Hawks made a school-record 18 3-pointers, surpassing the previous mark by three, and knocked them down at a record pace (23 attempts for a 78.3 percent success rate).
Weatherington posted a career-high 34 points, two shy of the school record. He was 12 of 14 from the field and did not attempt a free throw. His previous career highs were 22 points and five 3s. His 10 3s surpassed Jason Dunne's previous one-game record of eight. His 90 percent success rate from distance surpasses his own school record (4 of 5, 80 percent).
Weatherington hit his first 3 barely two minutes into the game and hit six in the first half as the Hawks (10-8, 3-1) raced to a 56-30 lead. His lone miss came with 6:40 left in the game and he redeemed himself by hitting two more treys down the stretch.
John Carroll was 3 of 3 from distance and had 14 points and J.R. Lynch added 13 for Hartford.
The Bearcats got 11 points from J.C. Snow and 10 from Thomas Bruce. Binghamton attempted 24 shots from behind the arc, hitting eight.
Hawks have their best start through four America East games since 2014-15. After posting seven straight wins, Binghamton (9-9, 0-3) now has lost five of its last six.
