Westendorf hits late FTs; Seattle rallies by San Jose State
SEATTLE (AP) Brendan Westendorf made two free throws with 6.6 seconds left for a three-point lead and Seattle rallied past San Jose State 67-64 on Sunday night.
Seattle trailed 46-34 midway through the second half but went on a 15-3 spurt to tie it at 49-all.
San Jose State pulled within 64-63 on Frank Rogers' two free throws with 34.1 seconds left. Freshman Malik Montoya hit 1 of 2 free throws moments later for a 65-63 advantage.
Ryan Welage drove the left baseline, was fouled with 7.1 seconds left and hit 1 of 2 free throws to make it 65-64. But Westendorf hit both from the stripe and San Jose State missed two good looks from 3-point range.
Manroop Clair scored 15 points for Seattle (5-6), which plays crosstown rival Washington on Tuesday. Westendorf finished with nine points, five rebounds, seven assists and four steals.
Isaac Thornton led San Jose State (4-7) with 17 points.
