William & Mary holds off College of Charleston 63-61

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) Omar Prewitt made a layup and Sean Sheldon and Daniel Dixon made three free throws in the final 54 seconds as William & Mary squeaked past College of Charleston 63-61 on Thursday night.

William & Mary bolted to 33-18 lead at the break and led 49-29 with 13:28 left in the game. College of Charleston had a 19-3 run to close to 52-47 with 6:41 remaining and took the lead, 59-58, when Evan Bailey, who finished with 16 points, nailed a trey with 2:28 left. Jarrell Brantley made two free throws for a 61-58 advantage but the Cougars failed to score again.

David Cohn had 15 points, Terry Tarpey added 11 and Greg Malinowski and Sheldon chipped in 10 apiece for William & Mary (12-4, 4-1 Colonial), which has won seven of its last eight games.

Cameron Johnson had 19 for College of Charleston (10-6, 2-3).
